Why buy British made goods?

The fewer shipping and air miles involved in the transportation of goods the less Co2 and other greenhouse gases.

You are helping to keep alive British craftsmanship and traditional making skills that are hundreds of years old and passed on through independent craft makers and small workshops to the next generation.

If sourced correctly timber is one of the most sustainable raw materials in the world. That's why we take sustainability seriously and only use timber that is chosen carefully from managed forests in Europe and North America. We never use any timbers that originate from tropical forests or rain forests. The timber suppliers we use abide to PEFC, FSC and Forests Forever.

We take great care to design products that will endure the test of time and wear gracefully. We believe in repair instead of discard that's why the majority of our furniture is made using solid timber. Our veneered furniture has solid wood edges that help protect it and make it easier to mend if damaged. The oiled and waxed surfaces also make it easier to renovate thereby extending its useable life and ensuring that it can be passed on to future generations.

Did you know that by buying direct from the maker you are helping to reduce shipping miles and hence greenhouse gases? The products we make are not shipped halfway around the world to a shop or a warehouse before being sold or dispatched, thereby eliminating some of the distances that products travel before reaching the end buyer.

Andrew Carpenter's designs have been selected for sustainable design exhibitions by 'Redesign' in London and 'Haute Green' at the International Furniture Fair in New York.
